SYLLABUS - FALL 2005
 
Scope: The course combines theoretical and experimental elements aimed at providing (1) basic understanding of soil physical properties and processes; (2) practical experience in the measurement and analysis of soil physical processes; and (3) presenting methods of analysis applicable to solving practical problems related to agricultural, hydrological and environmental problems.

The textbook "Environmental Soil Physics" by D. Hillel (ISBN 0-12-348525-8, Academic Press, 1998) is recommended as additional reading material. The book is available from the UI bookstore or online from Barnes&Noble, Amazon.com, or Academic Press. (The online stores also sell used copies that are significantly cheaper)

 
  Grades: 35% on homework problems
10% on each of the three examinations
35% on laboratory reports and quizzes

Scale: A>90%; B=80-89%; C=70-79%; D=60-69%; F<60%
 
  Homework &
Lab Reports:
Homework is due in class on Monday, 1 week after being assigned.
Lab reports are due at the beginning of the following lab session.

Homework or lab reports turned in late will not be graded!
