Dystrudept landscape
Appalachian Mountains, NC

Dystrudepts commonly form on sloping surfaces in humid climates. This Appalachian landscape, with hardwood trees, is a typical example of such a surface. Dystrudepts have formed in weathered sandstone and shale residuum and are often rocky and shallow to bedrock.
