Xerorthent landscape
Latah Co., Idaho


This type of landscape is known as "patterned ground" and is the result of freeze-thaw cycles during the ice age when the climate was much colder. Xerorthents are found in the intermound areas. These soils are very shallow to the basalt bedrock and have limited use.
