This soil is typical of those found in the basins of the Basin and Range Province of the US. The white crust at the soil surface is a mixture of various soluble salts. The high salt content in the upper profile inhibits the growth of most plant species. Species that grow in these soils are classified as halophytes and include Brickell bush and Inland Salt Grass.
