Udic Paleustalf
northcentral Texas
(
Windthorst series)

These soils are extensive on old erosional uplands in northcentral Texas and southcentral Oklahoma. Average annual precipitation is 26-32 inches and mean annual temperature is ~62-66 °F. Texture of the red subsoil is clay, sandy clay, or clay loam. Native vegetation is post oak and blackjack oak trees with a ground cover of little bluestem, greenbrier, and annual grasses. Most Windthorst soils are in pastures of bermudagrass or in rangeland. Some areas are cultivated, with peanuts, sorghums, and small grains the main crops.
