Distribution of Soils with Perched Water in Latah Co., ID

Approximately 51% of soils in Latah Co. are mapped as containing water-restricting subsoil horizons such as fragipans or argillic horizons.  Much of the remaining land area is occupied by crystalline rock outcrops and mountain ranges.  The extensive presence of these horizons may have implications for groundwater recharge in the region.  (Areas mapped in red contain perched water tables during part of the year.)
